[영어공부 혼자하기] Part1. 전치사 뿌시기 (in/at/on)

전치사는 매끄러운 영어 사용에 있어서 없어서는 안 될 존재입니다!

그 종류가 40개가 넘는다고 하던데 오늘은 기본적이고 중요한 전치사 몇 개 공부해 보겠습니다.

in / at / on 시간과 함께 쓰인다면?

 

기본 룰부터 설명 드리면,

1. 시간과 관련된 'at' for the time
2. 요일과 날짜와 관련 된 'on' for days and dates
3. 일정 기간과 관련된 'in' for long periods of time

At	On	In
at on o'clock	on Monday	in a few days
at half past twelve	on Tuesday	in a week
at midnight	on September 11th	in 5 year's time

 

 

그리고 'at'은 특정 시간에 사용할 수 있습니다.

at night	I don't like driving at night.
at weekends / the weekend	I see my family at the weekend.
at Easter	They have two weeks holidays at Easter.
at present / at the moment	I have no further questions at the moment.
at the same time	Will you be going at the same time as them?

 

'in'은 morning/evening  'on'은 요일에!

특이한 사항으로는 'this / every / next / last' 단어가 나올 시 전치사를 사용하지 않습니다.

Are you leaving in the morning?	No, I'm leaving on Friday evening.
Are you coming with us this Friday?	They are releasing the song next Tuesday.
I meet my dream group friends every Wednesday.	We went to Tunusia last Christmas.

 

 

in / at / on 장소와 함께 쓰인다면?

 

'in'은 고유위치, 특정 장소와 함께 사용됩니다.

in a buiding	in a park	in a river
in an elevator	in a street	in the sea
in a room	in a restaurant	in the rain

• There are people in the room.
• Don't put your fingers in your mouth
• We spent a week in Mauritius.
• No diving in the pool!

 

'at'(somewhere)은 특정 장소에 가깝거나 주변을 나타낼 때 사용합니다.

• at the entrance to the theatre. → beside the entrance
• at the statue beside the train station. → beside the statue
• at reception. → beside reception

그리고 종종 방향을 알려주거나 만남의 장소를 표현할 때 사용합니다.

• I'll meet you at the corner of 5th and Madison street. (no in the corner)
• Be at the taxi rank tomorrow morning. (not in the taxi rank)
• The bikers stopped at the rock for a rest. (not in the rock)

 

'on'(something)은 무언가의 위를 나타낼 때, 그리고 무언가를 하는 중을 나타낼 때 사용합니다. 그리고 특정장소(physical location) 위에 있거나 경험(experience)에 대한 것과 함께 사용합니다.

go in the room and you will see it	the cat sat at the door for a long time	she hung a scary mask on the door for halloween
